3 year olds - 6 year olds

Tiny Tigers

Our Tiny Tiger classes have been running since 2009 and a special training and grading system has been designed in-house by us. These classes have been tailor made by Early Years specialists who have a range of expertise. The classes are delivered by a karate coach who is trained in child development and backed up by senior Early Years’ educators.
The lessons consist of a warm up, followed by a variety of karate stances, blocks, strikes, kicks, punches and kata. The Tiny Tigers practise these techniques in drill/line form and against focus pads, prearranged set sparring takes place in a controlled manner and mitts must be worn.
The Tiny Tigers follow a special syllabus where they can earn merit badges for each technique they complete. These badges can be sewn onto the sleeve of their uniform.

The syllabus is aimed at the 4 areas of child developmental norms which include physical, intellectual, social and emotional areas. The syllabus also includes how to help develop younger children with their gross motor skills and this is adapted into the traditional Shotokan karate.

Tiny Tigers also get the opportunity to use foam noodles as B.O. to help prepare them for future classes (Juniors and Seniors).
These badges can be sewn onto the sleeve of their uniform.
The class is for 1 hour including a 10 minute break time.
Bring a drink along; no pop or screw lid bottles.
Please arrive 5 minutes early for the class so your child can come in and join in the variety of karate drills/games before class starts.

Children with Special Educational Needs:

Both the Tiny Tiger Instructor and the Club Welfare Officer work closely together to ensure everybody gets a chance to participate in Shotokan Karate. A range of strategies are used throughout Tiny Tiger lessons to help support those with special education needs. The Tiny Tiger Instructor is able to arrange a 1-to-1 with one of his student karate team members if required. We also use visual cards for those who work better with images and we offer visual timetables to those who need a visual structure to the lesson. CWSK is incredibly flexible for those who need support.

Junior Tigers

7 year olds - 11 year olds

These classes have been running since 2004 and students follow the well known Shotokan Karate style that is the largest style of Karate practised in the UK. These classes are led by Senior experienced Black Belt coaches with a variety of skills. The characteristics of Shotokan Karate are deep, strong, fast and dynamic Karate stances, blocks, strikes, kicks, punches, kata and sparring. You will develop a strong body, determination, focus, learning and confidence as well as excellent karate skills.
As the club has been developing rapidly since 2004 other techniques and ways and other styles of karate have been introduced through our continuing development, although not diminishing the Shotokan style we practise, but enhancing the skills and techniques to our evolving style.
You are very much encouraged to take ownership of your learning pace and these provide great short term goals.
Juniors also practice with the wooden oak staff (bo).
Seniors practice can become very tough and rewarding at times with robust self defence. You are expected to also self train and study at home.
All Juniors and Seniors are expected to attend classes regularly, including courses you may be invited to.
Top quality guest instructors can be seen visiting and teaching our courses.
The grading system is in line with many karate schools and has been verified by our governing body, NAKMAS.
The gradings are held once every 3-4 months at our clubs, Black Belts also grade at our clubs up to 3rd Dan.
Our chief instructor Sensei Neil was graded by NAKMAS NGB in 2021 to 5th Dan, under the full NAKMAS Management Committee.
